7/11/24 The Azores Bravos Trail Adventure Starts Here

We boarded our flight to Terceira Island in the Azores early this morning. Once we arrived, we entered the baggage claim area after passing through the welcome arch, grabbed our checked luggage, and transferred to the municipality of Angra do Heroismo, one of the archipelago's three capital cities.

Terceira is one of nine islands comprising the Azores, an autonomous region of Portugal with a population of about 57,000. It spans almost 150 square miles and contains underground volcanic chambers, stunning architecture, and a variety of natural and cultural wonders.

Angra do Heroismo, founded in 1478, is historically the most important city in the Azores. It was classified as a World Heritage site by UNESCO IN 1983 due to its historical importance and well-preserved buildings.

They were a delightful young Portuguese couple returning from the United Kingdom. Camilla is a musician and piano teacher,
and Luis is an engineer.
